When it came time to head to college, Randy headed 90 miles south to Morgantown, WV and attended West Virginia University where he got turned on to all forms of music including Neil Young, John Prine, Cat Stevens and really began getting into the Bluegrass side of music. After hooking up with a couple of fraternity brothers from Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity in Morgantown, he got caught up in a band called the Charged Particles. The Particles played frat parties and the many clubs in and around the Morgantown area. The cool thing about this band was that after they came out playing Zeppelin, The Stones and other rockers, they'd pull out the Bluegrass instruments and jam the rest of the night away. The Particles decided at one point to cover Rocky Top, Tennessee and changed the lyrics to call the song Morgantown, WV. This song made fun of the hated rivals of WVU football including the Pittsburgh Panther and the Penn State Nittany Lions. This song was recorded in Morgantown and received a lot of airtime on the local college radio station. I believe this song still receives some playtime on the Morgantown campus during football season. After graduating from WVU in 1985, Randy went back to Pittsburgh and formed other local gigging rock bands called Bad Habits, Emanon and Dizzy DeNovo. It was at that point that he needed to get back to his roots and hooked up with a local country band called Sierra. Randy played with Sierra for ten years around the Pittsburgh area and had the opportunity to open for such country greats as Confederate Railroad, George Jones, Vince Gill and 38 Special. These were certainly highlights in his musical history. In early 2001, Randy was offered a job in Scottsdale, Arizona to continue his career in the civil/environmental engineering field. While living in and around the Phoenix area, he hooked up with a group of lawyers from the Fennemore Craig law firm and began playing with ToadHouse. TH has performed many big gigs around the City of Phoenix including the Phoenix Children's Hospital Battle of the Bands where they were able to help raise over $75,000 for the hospital. While playing with TH, Randy and TH bass player Mark Henry hooked up
with Darla and Scott Russell, Corey Bodnar (Randy's son) and Claudia
Borowicz to form Slightly Right. SR is the band that Randy has always
dreamed about playing with. A fun and dedicated group of friends that
enjoy writing and playing original music while also entertaining crowds
around town with their own brand of originals and cover music. |
