Slightly Right
"a little bit rock, a little bit country-straight up Music" There isn’t one word you can use to describe Slightly Right. The sound of this 5 member band is as diverse as the band members themselves. From Steve Earle to Melissa Etheridge to Patsy Cline to the Rolling Stones, this band has it covered. Throw in sultry, rockin’ and “make-you-get-up-and-dance” originals performed with all the energy and soul you could ask for and you have Slightly Right. Clubs, corporate parties, weddings, backyard birthday parties, festivals, charity events…you name it….Slightly Right’s extensive song list will cover it. The band is fronted by Oklahoma native, Darla Bodnar. She’s a Taylor slinging, rock-n-roll-bluesy-gospel-tinged high energy performer whose influences include Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt and Roger Clyne. She pours as much emotion in every cover song as she does with her own true-to-life creations. Her songwriting is real and raw and honest and her performances are fun and powerful and free. She is side-by-side on stage with equally energetic guitarist/vocalist Randy Bodnar. This veteran performer and Pittsburgh native is a crowd pleaser with his classic rock riffs, haunting slide and free-spirited harmonica and mandolin wizardry. His past credits include opening for George Jones, Confederate Railroad, and 38 Special. These two front a band of multi-talented musicians, including; the rhythmically calculated bassist Mark Henry, who would make even the toughest mathematician cry, the “God-Save-The-Queen” classically-trained guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Paul Pickering, who learned to play in the shadows of Big Ben. Don’t let the veddy British accent fool you…one minute he’s wailing the blues and the next ripping out some Hee Haw-approved banjo rolls. Finally, there’s the’electric’ attitude of drummer Freddy G, whose vintage versatility and straight up thumpin’, feel it in your chest drums make it impossible to sit down and just watch. His mixture of diverse influences and diverse bands he’s been in give him the well-rounded and flexible attitude that fits perfectly with Slightly Right. This band brings their different backgrounds together to form a sound that is classic but current, unique but familiar, weathered but polished, past and future. They mix classic rock tunes with old country standards (they’ve been known to rock-up a country oldie or two and transform it into a SR classic) Randy and Darla are both soulful writers and write about what they know---life. Tattered, torn, frayed, seductive, and sweet lyrics mixed with danceable country-twisted rock (or is it rock-twisted country?) Talented energy, emotion and fun….That’s Slightly Right. (you’ll have to ask them how they got the name?) |
